Weight Gain On Birth Control
Many different women in the world, have reported different side effects from using things like the birth control pill, and the birth control patch. A lot of women have reported things like weight gain, from the hormones within the pill.
Women in the United States, have reported having side effects from using the hormonal method in order to prevent pregnancy. In a french study of women who used either the pill, or the patch birth control, about twenty percent reported that they have gained weight from them. The studies have proved that they can actually gain weight from the pill, or the patch, but only if they have high levels on the chemical estrogen in them, in which most patches, and pills do. The weight gain was not much, but is caused many women to stop using the pill, or the patch, and go to another form on birth control.
The British did another study in the year 2000, to see if anything had changed from the previous test that proved that the pill made women gain weight. In this study the percentage has dropped from twenty percent, to about eleven percent in the year 2000. This is because the different companies producing the pills, and birth control patches, began putting lower amounts of estrogen in the patches, and pills, but this also in return lowers the effectiveness of the product.
The weight gain that was associated with the two types of birth control, was rare to say the least, but had a huge effect on the women that used birth control pills, and patches. Many women heard reports of the different side effects, and weight gain really put a hinder on the sales of the birth control pill in the earlier days. Since its release in the early 90’s the birth control pill, and patch have came a long way, and now there is a ongoing study to see what has changed since the last report. So we will see if the estrogen still causes women to gain weight from the pill.
