Many women use a lot of different kinds of birth control, things like pills, and different patches. There are many different types, and brand names for women to choose from out there that can help them prevent them from getting pregnant.

Many women think that generic birth control is very different from things like the name-brand types of birth control like Yaz, which is a name brand birth control available for women. A lot of people think that the generic types of birth control are much different from the name brand medicines, but the FDA has said that the generic brands must have the same thing, and do the same thing as the name brand medicines. Although the things might look different like the medicines that are included in the pill are labeled in milligrams, or something different then the name brand medicine.

People buy the name brand medicine just because they think that the medicine is better in the name brand, and that they will get a better effect then the generic less expensive brand of the medicine. This is really not true, the generic brand will contain everything that the name brand birth control will contain. The generic brand might contain things like different doses of the medicine, and maybe look different then the name brand, but its the same. The package might look plain, and look like the generic brand really won’t do as good, but its the same as the name brand.

When name brand drugs come out like different types of birth control, and other sorts of name brand medicines. They put things on them called patents, and exclusivity, these two things allow the company that is selling the product the exclusive rights to produce the drug, and sell it themselves, and only themselves. A patent lasts for about 20 years, and allows only this company the exclusive right to produce this drug. A exclusivity lasts shorter then this, and means that no other company can sell this drug then the originally producing company.
