Birth Control
Birth control is the act of deliberately trying to stop the fertilization process between the female egg, and male sperm. There have been many ways, dating back to the early days of the United States, that have been used to stop the pregnancy process.
Early Methods Of Birth Control
The methods used commonly known as contraceptives have had a wide impact on today’s uses of different methods like birth control pills. In the early days of birth control there wasn’t many ways to inhibit the insertion of sperm into the vulva, besides a method known as “Coitus Interruptus”. Coitus Interruptusis the method of removing the penis from the vagina before ejaculating inside the vulva. The problem with this method is many men did not have the will power, and the timing right to perform the method correctly. There were also different myths, and different rumors that went around in the earlier days about other forms of contraceptive.
Different things like herbs, and different chemical drinks were said to have abortifacients in them that would destroy the fertile egg within the female. It was also said that the water used to cool metal by blacksmiths in the earlier days, if drunk by the women would have an abortifacient effect as well. The condom, which has been updated greatly since the earlier days, was initially brought up around the 17th Century, and was made from animal intestine. There were not many male contraceptives except for many people use to think that Papaya seeds would work as a male contraceptive. There were also ways rumored for a insertion method, in which different things like copper could be inserted to prevent pregnancy.
Different Methods Of Birth Control
During the incline in technology throughout the years, things that have also improved have been contraceptive treatments used for preventing pregnancy. There are different proven methods nowadays that work in preventing pregnancy, things like physical methods, barrier methods, and different hormonal methods. Physical methods include things like preventing the sperm from entering the vulva, by removing the penis before ejaculation, or altering the reproductive track by performing surgery. Barrier Methods include things like latex condoms for males, and the diaphragm used by women for a barrier as well. A hormonal method that is most commonly used in most household is the birth control pill, commonly called “The Pill”.
